World confederation for physical therapy, defines the physical therapy as an expanded field health service that help people to “develop, maintain, or restore function at maximal level. Routinely physical therapists interact with individuals who may face limitation in movement and function because of ageing, injuries or traumas, diseases, disorders, occupational or environmental factors. However, physical therapy plays distinct role in the health spheres of promotion, prevention, intervention, habilitation and rehabilitation. The Department of Physical therapy at Medical University of Isfahan (MUI) was formally approved by Iranian Board of Physical Therapy right at the same time when the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences was approved by the Iranian Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education in 1992. The first group of students were admitted for the bachelor of physical therapy in 1993, September. Then, the Masters of physical therapy started in 2010, September. The department of physical therapy is enjoying the experience of an associate professor, seven assistant professors and two lecturers. The main goal is to train specialist physiotherapists in order to provide evidence-based, patient-centered physical therapy services for the community, and to train scholarly, socially sensitive clinicians, educators, and researchers in the field of physical therapy and rehabilitation sciences who promote the profession into the next modern internationally acceptable health care system.
