Orthotics and prosthetics is a field practiced by a clinician known as Orthotist and prosthetist. Orthotics and prosthetics is considered a "related health profession" or "allied health profession" along with physical therapy, occupational therapy, orthopedic, neurology, surgery, and others. Orthotics and prosthetics specialize in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of the neuromusculoskeletal disorders and injuries in children and adults. The Department of Orthotics and Prosthetics of this university was established in 1993 when the faculty was established. The official activities and acceptance of the students was initiated in October 1994 and has been continued until now. The practice and work of Orthotics and prosthetics may take place in a variety of facilities as follows:
- Rehabilitation centers.
- Primary and secondary health-care facilities.
- Colleges and universities.
- Public and private schools.
- Private practice offices.
- State and local health department
- The main purposes of O&P department are educating specialized Orthotics and Prosthetics with highest scientific level, enabling people to participate actively in life through overcoming limitations caused by different diseases, and participation in different levels of health promotion and disease prevention in the community. The purpose of this department is to train specialized design and manufacture for these settings.
