about Speech and Language Pathology

Speech-Language Pathology is a field of expertise practiced by a clinician known as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) or a speech therapist. SLP is considered a "related health profession" or "allied health profession" along with audiology, behavior analysis, optometry, occupational therapy, clinical psychology, physical therapy, and others.SLPs are specialized in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults. The Department of Speech and Language Pathology was established in 1993 in tandem with establishing the faculty. The official activities and training students has initiated from October 1994.  The practice and work of speech-language pathologists may take place in a variety of facilities:

  • Public and private schools.
  • Hospitals.
  • Rehabilitation centers.
  • Nursing care facilities.
  • Community clinics.
  • Colleges and universities.
  • Private practice offices.
  • State and local health department

The purpose of this department is to educate and train specialized staffing and human resources for these settings.

 

Cleft Lip and Palate Team

The cleft team of MUI or Isfahan cleft team founded in 2005. The goal of the team is treatment and management of patients suffering from cleft lip and palate. Multidisciplinary approach is the main principle for team decision making.  The team is seeking to help patients and their families under the surveillance of different qualified specialist for reaching suitable results. Cleft lip and palate clinic was established in 2008 in rehabilitation school of MUI. Every Monday this team visits the cleft patients. So far, 2200 cleft patients from different parts of Iran have been treated under the surveillance of Isfahan cleft team.
