About Food Technology and Science Department

Department of food science and technology was established in 2011, as one of the three departments of the School of Nutrition and Food Science. Offering a master degree in food hygiene and safety soon after establishment, we have developed an interdisciplinary program in close collaboration with food and drug administration. Department also offers several undergraduate and graduate courses in relation to other graduated programs at the MUI. MSc in food hygiene and safety is a full-time program including one-year course followed by one year research. Our vission is concerning the fact that food safety is of utmost importance to every society to meet food security, there is a strong need to have qualified individuals in this field, deeply familiar with the most recent knowledge of food safety and hygiene, gained by strict academic integrity policy. This has been our department core goal from the start which will be continued in future, hopefully by heading toward PhD program. Our missions is Providing the latest evidence based courses in food hygiene and safety and training of MSc students, Food safety management from farm to consumer to avoid potential health hazards, The identification, characterization of foodborne hazards and risk assessment of them as well as  Assisting broadcast general information on the food safety of public issues.
