There are presently 28 departments in this school. All departments are involved in providing teaching and training in both basic and clinical sciences. Training is provided at different levels including medical students, GPs, Specialty, sub-specialty and fellowship assistants and for other health professionals. Most departments also provide specialty clinical services in the university affiliated hospitals and health centers in the region. Basic and clinical research is conducted in the areas of activity.

· Anatomy
Established: 1965
Areas of activity: Teaching and training in both theory and practical courses in gross anatomy and medical neurosciences. Provision of MSc and PhD programs in anatomy.
· Anesthesiology
Established: 1977
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services in areas such as the anesthesia care, ICU management, rehabilitation, respiratory care, water and electrolyte and acid-base regulation.
· Cardiology
Established: 1963
Areas of activity: Specialist and fellowship assistants training in interventional cardiology in adults and children. Provision of specialty clinical services in areas such as such as CT angiography, nuclear scan, pacemaker implantation, eco electrocardiography, electrophysiology.
· Clinical Toxicology
Established: 2009
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services. Provision of central hub for toxicology in the country.
· Dermatology
Established: 1954
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services.
· Ear, Nose & Throat, and Head & Neck surgery
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services in areas such as cochlear implants, otology and neurology.
· Emergency Medicine
Training and provision of specialty clinical servicesin specializedemergencyservices.
· General Surgery
Established: 1964
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services.
· Human Genetics
Areas of activity: Teaching and training and research. Serving as a focal point for drawing together and integrating basic and clinical genetic efforts conducted across the University and its affiliated hospitals.
· Immunology
Established: 1991
Areas of activity: Teaching and training. Research in the investigation of immunohematology, tumors, immunotherapy, transplantations and its immunopathology, allergies, autoimmunity diseases, mucosal immunity including Crohn’s disease.
· Infectious Tropical Disease
Established: 1964
Areas of activity: Training and special sections such as El Tor.
· Internal Medicine
Established: 1963
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services in areas such as cardiovascular, endocrinology and metabolism, kidney, blood and oncology, respiratory and rheumatology.
· Microbiology
Established: 1991
Areas of activity: Teaching, training and research in areas such as bacterial genetics, viral molecular biology, host-pathogen interactions.
· Neurology
Established: 1958
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services in areas such as the pathology of the nervous system and muscles.
· Neurosurgery
Established: 1989
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services in neurosurgery, especially in trauma in a special section and three ICU.
· Obstetrics & Gynecology
Established: 1980
Areas of activity: Including the labor, high-risk deliveries, emergency obstetrics, pre and post-natal care clinics and infertility.
· Ophthalmology
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services in area such as cornea, retinaandvitreous in Feyz and Farabi eye hospitals.
· Orthopedics
Established: 1980
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services. Fellowship training for assistants in spinal cord, knee and hand injuries.
· Parasitology & Mycology
Established: 1991
Areas of activity: Teaching and training. Research into protozoan, helminthes and arthropods diseases using classical and molecular methods.
· Pathology
Established: 1965
Areas of activity: clinical diagnostics, appropriating therapeutics, clinical pathology, transfusion medicine and molecular pathology.
· Pediatrics
Established: 1950
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services in the university affiliated hospitals and health centers.
· Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Established: 2007
Areas of activity: Including three areas of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases, mainly muscle - bone, the peripheral and central nervous. Electrodiagnostic centers as the first university to establish a center of therapy and biofeedback and shock waves.
· Physiology
Established:1948
Areas of activity: Teaching and training. Research into areas from basic biological research to neuroscience, cardiovascular science, ion channels & transporter, functional genetics & genomics all the way through to clinical application.
· Psychiatry
Established: 1991
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services.
· Radiology
Established: 1971
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services in areas such as diagnostic radiology, CT, MRI, nuclear medicine and radiotherapy.
· Radiotherapy & Oncology
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services.
· Social Medicine
Established: 1991
Areas of activity: Training management, practice, supervision of health centers, networks to GPs, interns and other health professionals.
· Urology
Established: 1991
Areas of activity: Training and provision of specialty clinical services such as surgical procedures and kidney transplantation. Management of the Ali Asghar kidney center.
