About Ophthalmology Department View(Active Tab) Edit Track

The Department of Ophthalmology was established in 1970 in Isfahan, and rapidly assumed responsibilities in teaching, research, and patient care. Teaching programs are maintained for medical students, resident physicians, fellows, and paramedical personnel. Our department is comprised of skilled ophthalmologists and professional staff who can provide a complete range of medical and surgical management of both routine and complex eye disorders. Faculty ophthalmologists deliver patient care concert with resident physicians and fellows at the Feiz hospital.

Clinical Educational Sub-specialty Services include:

  • Cornea and External Eye Disease Unit
  • Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery clinic
  • Glaucoma Clinic
  • Neuro- ophthalmology Clinic
  • Refractive Surgery Ward
  • Retina and Posterior Segment Unit
  • Uveitis Clinic
  • Strabismus Clinic

All major subspecialties including cornea external disease, viteoretinal disease, glaucoma, pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, neuro-ophthalmology, oculoplastics, and glaucoma are integrated into our teaching program through a combination of case study teaching in the clinical setting and conferences, and grand rounds utilizing audio-visual materials, lectures, and patient presentations in general or sub-specialty sessions.

The residency program is structured or provide close interaction between residents and attending ophthalmologists. Patients are seen by both residents and supervising ophthalmologists working together within a common Eye Clinic facility and the faculty offices are readily accessible to encourage consolation. Residents become skilled at ophthalmology surgical techniques from the second year of residency under close supervision, after an observation period they engage in practice and cloud manage all major ophthalmic procedures by the end of the training.

Residency training program established in 1971 in our department and over 120 ophthalmologists have graduated till now. 31 residents are in their training period consisting 8 in the third year, and 6 in the forth and the last year of the residency period. Each year two fellows in anterior and posterior segments work closely with attending professors and residents.

Each year about 250 medical students are trained in 1 month training programs in Feiz hospital.

  • International ICO (International Council of Ophthalmology) fellowship

Research activities have been structured through graduation theses projects which is required for MD, specialty, and fellowship degrees or non-thesis research that are set via the Isfahan Eye Research Center, an active organization in conducting ophthalmology research in Isfahan.
