IUMS's department of Internal Medicine focus on: Comprehensive care for patients with multi organ failure or nonspecific complaint, management of patients as inpatient or outpatient, Emergency room management and consultation in hospitals. At least 8 internists are active in 3 main hospitals including: Alzahra, Almahdi and Amin hospital.

This department contains 7 subspecialties as below:

Cardiology:

Cardiology is an important component in internal medicine department and at least 4 cardiologists work in Alzahra hospital.

Endocrinology:

Endocrinologists evaluate metabolic disorders as inpatient and outpatient. There are about 10 endocrinologists in this department and work in Alzahra hospital and Almahdi hospital. This major has fellowship residents every year. Endocrine and metabolism research center (EMRC) is a major center in IUMS.

Gastroenterology and Hepatology:

This division of internal medicine is a specialized part in preventing, diagnosing and treating digestive tract and liver disorders. About 14 gastroenterologists work in Alzahra hospital and Almahdi hospital and Salamat health center is activated as a research and treatment center for patients in Alzahra hospital. Some fellowship residents are accepted for learning this major every year.

Hematology and oncology:

Hematologists are experts in treating blood cancers and non-cancerous blood disorders. About 8 hematologists work in Alzahra hospital and Sayed alshohada hospital and fellowship residents are accepted for learning every year.

Nephrology:

This subspecialty is a multidisciplinary department contain inpatient ward, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis ward, outpatient clinic and transplantation ward. These parts are active in Alzahra haopital and Almahdi hospital with about 10 Nephrologists. Fellowship residents are applied every year with internists who have tendency to learn this major. Isfahan kidney disease research center (IKRC) is active for research and cooperate for research projects.

Pulmonology:

Pulmonologists, in Alzahra hospital and Almahdi hospital, are part of an integrated team of highly specialized medical experts who work together to care for people of all ages. They use the latest technology to provide exactly the care as outpatient or in a hospital setting, including the intensive care unit, bronchoscopy and sleep medicine. There are about 8 pulmonologists with some fellowship trainer for this subspecialty.

Rheumatology:

Rheumatology is the field of medicine that is concerned with the evaluation and treatment of people with autoimmune conditions and joint diseases. Branches of rheumatology include clinical research, as well as clinical diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of patients with these illnesses. Inpatient and outpatient management is done in Alzahra hospital and Almahdi hospital with about 8 rheumatologists. Fellowship residents are applied every year with internists who have tendency to learn this major.
