Infectious diseases and tropical medicine is a specialty with the mission of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases in patients with acute, sub-acute, chronic, inpatient or outpatient conditions with abroad spectrum of infectious diseases from primary infectious diseases to infection in immunocompromised patients, infections in ICU, nosocomial infections, viral, bacterial and fungal infections, infections due to parasites, tuberculosis, AIDS, viral hepatitis and etc. The patient care is delivered in a number of facilities: emergency room, ward, clinic, day clinic and ICU.
Infectious diseases department is at Isfahan University of Medical Sciences (IUMS), medical school. Medical students will learn about different infectious diseases in theory and in practice, and they can use their science in practice on patients under the supervision of attending.
Residents learn to be able to prevent, diagnosis and management a wide range of infections and infectious diseases in inpatient and outpatient conditions, and they learn to use the best science and evidence based approaches available in clinical practice for managing different kinds of infectious problems.

Established at 1965 as the department of infectious diseases and tropical medicine.
