Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the specialty of dentistry, which includes the diagnosis, surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and esthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons cover a much broader scope of practice, utilizing advanced 3-D imaging and traditional surgical techniques, to treat cleft and craniofacial disorders, oral cancer, jaw reconstruction, snoring and sleep apnea, dental implants and facial cosmetic surgery.
