About- Health in Disasters and Emergencies

Department of Health in Disasters and Emergencies (HDE):

 

A) Research-based Ph.D. degree

The first course started in 1992, when one student was admitted and graduated in 2016. This course was run only once.

B) Education-based Ph.D. degree

Its main purpose was to utilize the capacity of the specialists in HDE with five organizational positions defined specifically for the HDE department. The first acceptance of Ph.D. students in HDE took place in Bahman 1394 (date: 8/7/1393, Number: 1927/500/d).

The aim of HDE degree:

Ph.D. degree in HDE constitutes interdisciplinary educational programs focusing on health sciences at the four phases of the disaster cycle (disaster reduction, preparedness, response and recovery) in natural as well as man-made hazards with the aim of maintaining and promoting physical, mental and social health throughout the community.

Mission

The mission of the HDE department is to develop the capacity of knowledgeable and skilled human resources along with educating professional researchers to manage the emerging difficulties that the health sector might encounter in order to prevent and reduce potential risks and institutionalize scientific management of the health effects of disasters and emergencies.

Goals

Providing our students with programs that help them attain knowledge, attitude and executive abilities in disasters and emergencies.

 

Objectives

  • Training current and future human resources in the health sector to pave the way for policy making and disaster and emergency risk management.
  • Producing essential scientific documents to be used nationally and internationally together with providing evidenced -based references in the fields of disaster prevention and risk reduction.
  • Supplying scientific and locally adopted references for the health sector to manage and reduce the risk of natural, man-made and biological threats and interventions to reduce the risk of adverse health outcomes in natural and man-made disasters and emergencies.
  • Developing interdisciplinary collaboration through development of communication and teamwork skills, and professional relationships.

 

Vision:

Establishing three master's degrees in the fields of “Health in Disasters Emergencies”, “Health and Traffic”, and “Civil Defense”, which are under investigation to receive the permission of national board. Besides, HDE department is ready to hold new courses regarding the related fields. We also seek to apply for national and international grants, especially from the World Health Organization and the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office in the areas related to disasters.
